HISTORY

It was the late 50s

It was the late 50s when three young entrepreneurs gave life to a great idea: to gather the characteristic Venetian local sales counters in one place, thus offering, according to the American supermarket model, a high-quality service for a convenient price.

In a former movie theater in Padua the first Pam supermarket was opened.
Wide spaces, shelves stuffed with any kind of national and international products, from 30 to 40% cheaper than the other local stores.

Thanks to the innovative system, to the quality and the customer care, Pam shops gained immediate success from their very first open: the brand began to spread its presence on the national field and it introduced a professional course in order to train all the employees.

In the 70s the Company, pioneer among the large retailers, brought in the first in-service fish counter in Milan.
It also merged the Lombard Max Market and the Piedmontese Supermercati under the brand Pam, and it developed the Metà format, the first discount of the group.

In 1984 the first Panorama superstore was born in Marghera, characterized by a wide selection and a functional and appealing layout.
Meanwhile, the stores in Northern and Central Italy multiplied: Pam Panorama established itself as a relevant national retail company.

The 90s were full of good things for Pam: in addition to the network expansion with the purchase of the Superal chain, the new trademarked product line “I Tesori dell’Arca” was born.
Willing to offer high-quality and super fresh fishes, in 1999 the Trawlers Project began, thanks to a direct deal with a fleet of boats, which went to sea every day and, even today, provides its own harvest to Pam Panorama first.

The 2000s were a lucky decade: thanks to the collaboration with Oliviero Toscani, Gruppo Pam renewed its image, and, along with the English agency Twenty Twenty, redefined the design of the stores.
It also introduced the “Carta Superpremi” loyalty program - replaced then by Carta Per Te - and the new trademarked Pam Panorama line.

The innovative format Pam Local was born for daily shopping, focused on the attention for convenience and practicality.
The brand includes now over 100 direct and affiliate shops in Italy and it represents a new proximity service in order to offer the best in terms of quality, rates and convenience.

Pam City opened in Rome, the new generation of the urban proximity shop. The City project aims to guarantee a good, healthy and local selection, with a continuous convenience, with many innovative saving solutions.
Distinctive features are the different lunch menus or snack ideas, to be enjoyed at home or in the foodhall, the cosy refreshment point, and the wide selection of fruits, vegetables, cheese and local cured meat.
